NorthPointe Christian girls soccer team returns to regional finals

KALAMAZOO — Reaching the girls soccer regional finals for the first time in school history last season made NorthPointe Christian thirsty for more.

The Mustangs will return to the Division 4 regional finals after a 5-1 victory against Jackson Christian on Wednesday at Mayors Riverfront Park.

“To make it to the regional finals two years in a row is huge, and these girls want it bad,” NorthPointe Christian coach Tricia VanderKodde said. “They just want to keep going as far as we can.”

North Pointe (17-5-1) will face Kalamazoo Hackett at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Mustangs lost in the regional finals last year to Charlevoix. They hope that experience serves them well in their return trip.

“It will help a lot that we were there last year,” said NorthPointe sophomore Annie Hamilton, who scored three goals Wednesday.

The girls return to Kalamazoo this saturday to try to lock down the regional championship, a task they came one win from taking home last season.

Northpointe Girls cruise into district not allowing a single goal

NORTHPOINTE CRUISES IN DISTRICT NOT ALLOWING A GOAL: The NorthPointe Christian girls dominated the district without allowing a goal in wins over Freedom Baptist (4-0), Potter’s House (8-0), and Tri-Unity (3-0). The Mustangs overwhelmed opponents posting a shot differential of 77-10 in the three wins. The concentration on defense and an opportunistic offense has made NorthPointe a formidable foe as they move on to the regional tournament on Wednesday.

If you can’t make it to any of the remaining scoccer games this season, as is districts, regionals, and ??? you get a twitter account, follow NPCSoccer.

You can even have updates sent to your cell phone. You’ll know each goal scored as it happens (and anything else I have time to text in while I’m watching the game.) You’ll even know if I’m kicked off the field again. By the way I was video taping at the time and so have the clip of the ref stopping play and kicking me off the field while I am silently video taping. I’m trying to see if I can post it – it would just feel good.

GRAND RAPIDS — After two regular-season losses to North Pointe Christian, Tri-unity Christian girls soccer coach Mike Cronkright said he thinks his team finally has an advantage. When the teams meet in today’s 5:30 p.m. Division 4 district final, Cronkright said he believes the underdog role might even make the Defenders the favorite.

Girls Varsity Soccer team is now ranked 9th in the state for division 4. Interestingly, South Christian has dropped out of the ranking for the first time.
